Desert Community College District
ADA Transition Plan, Parking & Path of Travel Master Planning – 2011
SSA conducted a thorough survey of disabled access barriers on campus; then developed a Transition Plan for the Desert Community College District which served as a working document complying with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
The Transition Plan findings, with respect to the general grounds and approximately 22 campus buildings selected for review, indicated that access to programs were found to deviate from current State and Federal standards for new construction.
Most of the campus’s buildings were constructed prior to the enactment of the ADAAG and were not originally designed to provide ready access for individuals with disabilities. Numerous structures, however, had undergone remodeling and alterations and consequently did comply more fully with current standards. The goal of this Transition Plan was to outline how to implement the necessary modifications to facilities in order to provide accessible campus services, programs, and activities.
