We invite you to join Sally Swanson, who will be presenting at the upcoming C.A.S.H. (California’s Coalition for Adequate School Housing) Conference on the topic of Cultivating the Whole Child. The workshop is facilitated by Laura Knauss of Lionakis Architects.

Whole Child education requires that schools partner with families, communities, and students to create safe and sustainable environments for learning. Sally and Dr. Barbara Penny-James, Principal of Ford Elementary School at WCCUSD, will present strategies, values, and insights on Whole Child design and learning. The workshop will take you through a case study of the new sustainable Ford Elementary School, once a troubled and aging urban campus now transformed into a vibrant educational environment. Dr. Penny-James will explain the MicroSociety Learning Program and other components of her thriving school.

Another facet of the Whole Child educational philosophy focuses on a healthy lifestyle to directly address the childhood obesity epidemic. Also presenting at the workshop is Shawn Harrison, founder of Soil Born Farms, an urban agriculture and education program, working with school-aged children on the important connections between food, health, and the health of the environment. Join us as we move from MicroSociety to down on the farm…cultivating the Whole Child along the way.
