CalTrans – Design Standards

SSA reviewed and edited Caltrans ADA Design Standards and Plans, working with department staff to research standards and guidelines for accessible public rights-of-way elements and reviewing specifications. SSA worked with department personnel in researching existing standards and guidelines pertaining to accessible public rights-of-ways elements and reviewing Caltrans standard plans and specifications. SSA worked with the Division of Design, providing training on access compliance and guidance on ramp design issues.  SSA was also tasked with developing guidelines for accessible parking for trailer-tractor trucks at Caltrans highway rest-stops. Other tasks included research and recommendations on policy alternatives, code interpretations, alternative funding mechanisms, project tracking mechanisms and performance measurement tools. SSA presented the information at meetings with Caltrans staff.
